Bedtime reading with my son。 Lots of silliness and action-packed - the pictures throughout are great, and we both enjoyed this!

My son would probably have given this 4 stars。 I just didn’t feel that same feeling I got from his other books。 It was a really loooooong book, at least it felt it! I’m glad we have finished it, it felt like we were never going to get to the end。 The plot was lacking with this book。 There was no magic, spark or twists and turns that we had from his other books, no cliff hangers。 The characters didn’t really come to life either。 I didn’t get an attachment or warm feeling to any of them。 Even the My son would probably have given this 4 stars。 I just didn’t feel that same feeling I got from his other books。 It was a really loooooong book, at least it felt it! A great book for LKS2。 Lots of simple humour that the kids loved hearing and the letter format of the book makes it a really good book as well。 Can't beat the Creakers though I'm afraid。 A great book for LKS2。 Lots of simple humour that the kids loved hearing and the letter format of the book makes it a really good book as well。 Can't beat the Creakers though I'm afraid。 。。。more

A fun, gross story about 8 kids who develop strange abilities (well, in one case, a pet does。。。) after a mysterious (and smelly) storm in the wonderfully named town of Freaky。 What I really liked is that much of the book is about the kids’ developing powers (which they kind of discover by accident) and their their growing friendship。 Reminded me of the Goonies (8 kids/kids on bikes) and Round the Twist (the gross bits)。 Would love to see more books in this series, and have ordered ‘The Creakers’ A fun, gross story about 8 kids who develop strange abilities (well, in one case, a pet does。。。) after a mysterious (and smelly) storm in the wonderfully named town of Freaky。 What I really liked is that much of the book is about the kids’ developing powers (which they kind of discover by accident) and their their growing friendship。 Reminded me of the Goonies (8 kids/kids on bikes) and Round the Twist (the gross bits)。 Would love to see more books in this series, and have ordered ‘The Creakers’ by Tom Fletcher which looks lots of fun too。 。。。more

Very good story

Likeable hero, great hero format。3。5 stars。A good idea here。 Boy moves to a new town and writes a letter home every month to a (girl) friend。 Potential spooky and crazy goings on, a new school with bullies and friends and a family including an inventor - these letters are going to get very interesting! It felt a bit 'Eerie Indiana', very reminiscent of the series I enjoyed as a child。 And while children will probably love it, it was a little trite, forced and silly。Frankie misses his best friend, Likeable hero, great hero format。3。5 stars。A good idea here。 Boy moves to a new town and writes a letter home every month to a (girl) friend。 Potential spooky and crazy goings on, a new school with bullies and friends and a family including an inventor - these letters are going to get very interesting! It felt a bit 'Eerie Indiana', very reminiscent of the series I enjoyed as a child。 And while children will probably love it, it was a little trite, forced and silly。Frankie misses his best friend, but soon has plenty to tell her about, with regular monthly updates involving his mum's inventions and new friends at school - nappies, weather rays, shrinking/growing, giant sharks。。。 it's all the sort of things the age group will enjoy。 I gave this to my 10-year-old to read。 He finished it very quickly before passing it back to me and declared it "alright"。 I then read it and agreed。 It's not exceptional, it has moments of humour, the story is formulaic, characters a little bland, he self-refers to his band。 Lots is squeezed into one book, there are messages about friendship and teamwork。It's passable, it's fun, it's a bit gross, it's episodic。 It'll keep them entertained。 For ages 8-12。 。。。more

Another stellar Tom Fletcher novel read with my kiddo。 A different style to The Creakers and The Christmasaurus as this one is written as a series of letters, but it exposed my kiddo to a different writing style。 She said at the end that she'd like to read another book from the POV of Franky's girlfriend Dani so she could get to know her! Lol!Great mummy-reading! Enjoyable, creative and entertaining! It's danger time! When Franky moved to Freaky weird things started to happen after a mysterious green storm。 Eric started to turn into a shark when water touched him。 Mollie could become invisible and Charlie had a freaky hamster as a pet! They fit the story so perfectly and always appear at the right moment。 All these illustrations make the story come to life even more。The story is quite intriguing。 You always wait for something freaky to happen。 I am sure that kids love this book! It also tells an amazing story about friendship and how strong such a connection can be。 Basically, no matter what your talents and weaknesses are, friends will have your back all the time。 I also loved the connections to Fletcher's other books like The Creakers。I can really recommend this book。 It is a nice read and engaging。 Kids will love it as well, but more grown-ups will too! I mean it's danger time all the time! 。。。more

This book was interesting and creative, with an array of different powers and objects。 It all starts when Franky Brown moves to the town of Freaky, and there is a smelly storm and the kids in the town of Freaky get all of these cool abilities and things!!! I thoroughly recommend and enjoyed this novel because of its humour and adventure。Tom Fletcher has really outdone himself this time with this awesome book so, even though it isn't one of my favourites, I would recommend it。 This book was interesting and creative, with an array of different powers and objects。 It all starts when Franky Brown moves to the town of Freaky, and there is a smelly storm and the kids in the town of Freaky get all of these cool abilities and things!!!
